Follow these simple steps to upgrade your Belkin router to the latest firmware.
Before you upgrade your router’s firmware it is important to remember that your computer should be connected to the router with an Ethernet cable for a stable line.
Also, ensure that you have a backup of your router’s settings before upgrading the firmware to prevent them from being lost. Belkin routers come with Save/Backup Settings and Restore Previous Settings features to help you save your router configuration settings and to retrieve a previously backed up configuration.
Note: There is a sticker at the bottom of the router which contains the model number, serial number and version of your router.
Verifying the firmware version
The current version of the firmware on your router needs to be established so that you can tell if it’s outdated or needs to be re-flashed (upgraded with the same version that is currently installed).
Downloading the firmware
Visit the Belkin Support site to download the latest firmware file to your computer. If you find it difficult to download your router’s firmware, try to use a different browser or clear the cache.
Carrying out the upgrade
Step 1: Visit the setup page on the Web using any Web browser. Type in your router’s IP address in the address bar.
Step 2: On the top-right corner of the page, click Login.
Step 3: If you have a password for your router, enter it or leave the field blank if default. Click Submit.
Step 4: In the left navigation panel, click Utilities > Firmware Update.
Step 5: Click Browse located near Update Firmware to look for the firmware file that you had saved.
Step 6: Click Open once you have selected the firmware file you had downloaded.
Step 7: When the path appears, click Update.
Step 8: A prompt will appear asking if you want to continue with upgrading. Say OK.
Step 9: Another prompt will tell NOT to turn off the router or reboot it after the upgrade. Again, click OK.
The status of your firmware update will now appear.
Step 10: After the update is complete, you will need to wait for several seconds as a timer will count down.
Step 11: After the router reboots, click OK.
Note: If you experience problems while updating firmware, reset the router to the factory settings and redo the updates.
